In 1796, the Alter Rebbe - founder of Chabad Chassidism - published the Tanya, later known as the "Written Torah of Chassidism." Its teachings revolutionized Jewish thought, illuminating the inner world of the soul and offering guidance that remains timeless and transformative.
Nearly two centuries later, in 1984, the Lubavitcher Rebbe launched a visionary initiative: to print an edition of Tanya in every city across the globe. This directive was rooted in a teaching of the Baal Shem Tov that Moshiach will come when the “wellsprings” of Chassidic wisdom spread outward to every corner of the world. By printing the Tanya in each location, the Rebbe sought to turn every city into a wellspring of holiness, inspiration, and spiritual strength.
Today, over 4,000 editions have been printed worldwide - from bustling metropolitan centers to the quietest rural towns - each one transforming its community with the light of Chassidus.
We are deeply honored to announce that we, too, will be printing our own edition of the Tanya, in fulfillment of the Rebbe’s call and in loving memory of Elliott & Jane Chakoff, obm.
Elliott and Jane lived in Herndon long before Chabad arrived. Their discovery of Chassidus was marked by Divine Providence that Elliott would love to relate, and the inspiration they drew from these teachings became a gift they shared with so many. Elliott’s love for the Tanya was a defining passion; with Jane’s wholehearted encouragement, he taught its teachings widely, touching countless hearts.
As we prepare to go to print, we invite our friends and community members to participate in this beautiful mitzvah and eternal merit. Dedication opportunities are available below.
The deadline for dedications is Monday, December 7 at 9:30 PM.
May this project bring merit, unity, and blessing to our community, and may it stand as a living tribute to Elliott and Jane’s enduring legacy.
Sincerely,
Rabbi Leibel & Nechamie
